How a conference board is worked out
What period does the move cover?
The four weeks before the conference starts and the four weeks after it ends. The starting price is the first close on or after 28 days before day one — not "the price 28 days ago", because 28 calendar days back is often a Saturday, a holiday or a day the company was suspended. The day it actually used is printed beside the figure.
Where does the attendee list come from?
From the conference’s own published programme, read and then confirmed by a person before the list goes public. No lineup is published automatically, and no roster of tickers is ever typed by hand.
Why do some companies have no figure?
Because we could not price them, and a company we cannot price still belongs on the list. Some presenters are private, some are listed somewhere we do not carry, and some simply have no closing prices in the window. Each one is shown by name with the reason next to it rather than quietly left out — a board that dropped them would no longer match the programme it claims to be.
Australian and Canadian companies on one board?
Yes, and each row states its own currency. Nothing on the board adds two rows together, because a total that silently mixed Australian and Canadian dollars would look exactly like a real one. The two markets are also a different number of days along at any moment — Toronto’s Monday close prints around 6am Sydney on Tuesday — so a row a day behind says so instead of being greyed out.
